Allium
The genus allium consists of nearly 1,000 species, including many edible ones such as onions, leeks, shallots and chives. The flowers bloom on a single stem that can vary greatly in length from 20 to 150 centimeters. The flowers come in different colors such as white, lilac, purple, blue, yellow, violet or pink and vary in size and shape. The allium often sticks out far above a bunch with its long thick stem. In addition, the bulb of an allium is composed of hundreds of tiny flowers with tiny green hearts and this is one of the many characteristics that make the ornamental onion so special.
